Steps to Writing a Proper Paragraph

 

When writing a paragraph, it is important to follow the proper steps.  Click on the above title to read a document which outlines these steps.

 

Capitalization:  Titles

 

When it comes to titles, which words should be capitalized and when should one italicize them, underline them, or put them in quotation marks? Click on the title above to see some rules regarding these tricky aspects of writing.

Quick tip:  When coming up with a title for your essay or assignment, be original.  If at all possible, try to come up with a pun or a play on words which relates to the subject-matter of your essay or assignment.

Understanding Shakespeare

 

Reading and actually understanding William Shakespeare's work can be quite difficult.  Here are a few tips to help you out:

 

     1.  Take it slow and be sure to pronounce each word properly.

     2.  Use the notes at the bottom of each page.

     3.  Take advantage of online resources, such as Sparknotes.

Personal Essay

 

When it comes to writing a personal essay, there are many elements that you must keep in mind.  Once you've organized your ideas and opinions and you are ready to start writing, refer to these notes by clicking on the title above.  You will also find three different examples of the personal essay.  Finally, click HERE to view an example of a personal essay which uses examples from the novel Of Mice and Men to support its thesis.  The format of this last essay is different from that of the other three.  Don't worry; this is normal.  There are many different ways a person can compose an essay!
